MISI PILOT (“Ibu Hamil dan Menyusui Aman Pilih Obat” or “Safe Medicine Selection for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Mothers”)

On February 24, 2024, the Community Service Program was conducted by the Magister of Pharmacy Management UGM (MMF 2023) in Kaponan Village, Pakis District, Magelang Regency. One of the initiatives undertaken was providing education through counselling sessions to village residents, particularly women, regarding the safe use of medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This program was aptly named “Safe Medicine Selection for Pregnant and Breastfeeding Mothers” or “MISI PILOT”. The aim of this activity was to ensuring the safety of drug usage for pregnant and breastfeeding women concerning the impact on the baby. The event commenced at 8:00 AM in the morning and concluded at 11:30 AM in the afternoon, taking place in the Kaponan Village Head Office Hall.

Participants included members of the PKK (Family Welfare Movement), pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, and productive-age women from the village with the total of 30 attendees. The counselling sessions involved presentations on medications deemed safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Alongside the presentations, participants received pocket books containing relevant materials distributed individually. Prior to receiving the presentation materials, participants underwent a pre-test to assess their knowledge of medication use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Following the presentations, a post-test was administered to gauge any increase in participants’ understanding of medication safety. To boost participants’ enthusiasm, the “MISI PILOT” team provided merchandise for each participant. Various quizzes and mini-games were also organized, with prizes awarded to participants who managed to answer.

The various questions received from participants reflected the participants’ enthusiasm regarding the presentation. It is hoped that with this activity, the ultimate goal of the “MISI PILOT” Community Service Program can be realized and the pregnant and breastfeeding mothers will become more attentive and careful in using drugs during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In the end, the entire series of events ran well and smoothly and all participants and the program organizers took a group photo as a keepsake.
