Empowering Student Against Drugs and Smoking Through the “ACT to HOPE” Program

The theme of the social project was “ACT to HOPE,” which stands for Awareness, Commitment, and Transformation towards a Healthy, Optimistic, Positive, and Empowered life. The project was participated in by students from SMK Kristen 2 Klaten, aiming to educate them on the dangers of smoking and drug abuse (NAPZA) while promoting a healthier lifestyle. The activities included an educational presentation, interactive discussion, mini-games, a Q&A session, and the distribution of educational posters. The posters were given to all students to further spread awareness within the school community.

The educational presentation began with an overview of the dangers of smoking and drug abuse, covering their negative impacts on physical health, academic performance, and social life. This session aimed to increase students awareness of the risks and encourage them to make informed decisions. The next part of the presentation emphasised strategies for resisting peer pressure and making a firm commitment to a drug-free life. Additionally, students were introduced to the ACT to HOPE concept, highlighting the importance of transforming bad habits into positive actions to reach their full potential. The discussion session allows the students to ask questions of the presenter for a more detailed explanation of the topic and is also used by the presenter to test the students understanding of the explained topic. Students who were active in the discussion session were then given prizes as a token of appreciation.

Overall, the students showed great enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the event. The “ACT to HOPE program successfully encouraged students to make positive choices, reinforcing the message that a bright future starts with conscious and responsible actions today. In the end, the entire series of events ran well and smoothly, and all participants and the program organisers took a group photo as a keepsake.
